Russellville fells Lawrence County

From the Moulton Advertiser

MOULTON — Russellville scored early and often as they walked into Lawrence County and ran away with a Class 5A, Region 8 win by a final of 55-13.

The Golden Tigers have clinched a playoff spot with the win and will be looking to the postseason after being defeated in the first round last year.

It only took three plays for the Russellville offense to find the end zone.

Calem Posey scored from 30 yards out to open the scoring.

The Golden Tigers’ defense forced a punt and subsequently drove 52 yards in five plays, capped by a 9-yard Landon Smothers pass to Jacob Seal.

From there, the defense got in on the action as Austin Kitterman intercepted

a Red Devil pass and returned it for the score, giving Russellville a 20-0 advantage at the end of the first stanza.

The second quarter was much like the first as Russellville scored three touchdowns again.

Tyler Boyd ripped off runs of 56 and 74 yards for touchdowns in the quarter.

Gabe Vernon put the Red Devils on the board with a 3-ayrd touchdown run in the first half. Russellville led 41-7 at the break.

Snothers and Auston Hill both scored in the second half for the Golden

Tigers. Smothers found pay dirt from 60 yards out and Hill scored on a 9-yard touchdown run.

Russellville finished with 401 yards on the ground and 117 through the air.
