Buice Elvis Whitehead (Brown Leggern), 82, Hackleburg, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2012.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Hackleburg United Methodist Church with Dr. Hendon and Dr. Yates officiating.

Survivors include his brother, Jimmy Lee Whitehead; sons, Tommy and Dennis Whitehead and wife, Lydia; grandchildren, Stephanie O’Conner and husband, David, Shane Whitehead and wife, Nikki, Challice Langston and husband, David, Dean Mackey and husband, Brian, Ashley McKinnon and husband, Jeff; great-grandchildren, Will O’Conner, Jessica Whitehead Akin and husband, Jordan, Victoria O’Conner, Sydney Whitehead, Landon Langston, Peyton Langston, Sawyer Mackey, Brylee Mackey, Banks Langston; great-great grandchildren, Ella Akin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Whitehead; siblings, James, Alene and Peachy.

He loved bluegrass music and spending time with his family. He was a well-known figure in the Hackleburg community and could be seen riding his buggy, wearing his overalls and ringing his cowbell at the football games. His friends called him “Brown Leggern” and those who loved him called him granddaddy.
