Local man accused of pawning stolen jewelry

A local man was arrested on Wednesday after authorities said he sold more than $3,000 worth of stolen jewelry to a Colbert County pawn shop.
James Chris Spencer, 45, 704 Green Ave., Russellville, was charged with first-degree receiving stolen property, officials said.
According to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett, the jewelry was allegedly taken from a home on Washington Avenue in downtown Russellville that was burglarized back in September.
Hargett said around $6,500 worth of jewelry was taken during the burglary and the owner happened to find some of the pieces of stolen jewelry at a Muscle Shoals pawn shop this week.
Hargett said after investigators talked to the owner of the pawn shop and reviewed receipts, it was determined that Spencer was the one who allegedly sold the stolen jewelry.
Hargett said investigators have not determined if Spencer was the one who actually burglarized the home so he isn’t being charged with that crime at this time.
Around $3,500 worth of jewelry is still missing and the case is still under investigation, Hargett said.
Anyone with any information about this case should contact the Russellville Police Department at 256-332-2230.
