City man indicted in shooting

A Russellville man accused of shooting another man during an altercation in April was indicted by a recent grand jury, courthouse officials said.
Charles Lynch Hamilton, 52, 100 Lynch Lane, Russellville, was indicted for first-degree assault, which is the charge he was originally arrested on following an incident that occurred on April 7.
According to reports, Hamilton was allegedly involved in an altercation on that date with 49-year-old Joseph Nelson at a residence in the 100-block of Stuck Street in Russellville.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said officers were dispatched to the residence after the department received calls that someone had been shot.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered Nelson had been shot once in the chest area with a .38 pistol, which officers recovered at the scene, Hargett said.
According to witness statements, the shooting appeared to be the result of a physical altercation between the two men earlier in the evening.
After the first altercation, witnesses stated Hamilton allegedly came back to the residence on Stuck Street and shot Nelson once before fleeing the scene.
Hargett said officers located Hamilton a short time later and took him into custody.
Nelson was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released the following day.
Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said Hamilton’s case would be scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 4 and would then be placed on the February criminal trial docket.
