Officials pleased with progress on new PCHS

Even though the area has been experiencing plenty of cold and rainy days since the beginning of the year, school officials said the construction is still on schedule at the site of the new Phil Campbell High School.
Franklin County Schools Superintendent Gary Williams said work officially began on Jan. 3 and the crew that has been working on getting up the old concrete slabs and footings has worked straight through the recent bad weather.
“We knew that the progress being made on the new Phil Campbell High School would be contingent on how the weather ends up being,” Williams said, “but even though we’ve had a lot of rain and cold weather, it hasn’t slowed the workers down a bit. They’ve been out there every day getting things done.”
Blalock Building Company of Trussville was the low-bid contractor and is currently sub-contracting the preliminary work that is currently being done.
Williams said since this stage of the process is still on schedule, the crew should be finished removing the old slabs and footings in the next two weeks.
“Once they’re done with their portion of the work, Blalock will sub-contract the next company to come in to do the grading work to get ready to put in the new footings,” he said.
“We’re very pleased with the progress that’s been made so far, and we’re looking forward to moving to the next phase.”
