THARPTOWN — The Tharptown Wildcats defeated the Belgreen Bulldogs on Saturday night to capture their second straight area tournament title.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 27-8 first quarter lead and never looked back defeating the Bulldogs 68-36.

“It’s a great victory for our girls,” said Tharptown coach Chad Green. “They have worked hard to achieve this goal.  We don’t want to let up now, though.  We still have some goals left to achieve.”

Tharptown junior Danielle Creasy led all scorers with 21 points, 15 of which came in the first quarter. Junior Kamri Sears was also in double figures with 15 points.

“It’s exciting to win the area championship again,” said Creasy. “We just want to get back to Wallace [Northwest Regionals at Wallace-Hanceville]. That’s within our reach.”

Tharptown will host Shoals Christian in a sub-region matchup on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

The winner will advance to the Northwest Regionals at the campus of Wallace-Hanceville.

Belgreen will travel to R.A. Hubbard Thursday night for their sub-region matchup.

Also scoring for Tharptown were Brooke Daniel (9), Kathy Alfaro (8), Haley Malone (4), Kassy Baker (4), Erica Valdez (1), Debbie Gomez (1) and Sierra Robinson (1).
