Can we afford such debts?

I voted for President Obama in 2008 mainly because he promised if he were elected  he would reduce the national debt.

Instead it has about doubled. With our national debt being approximately $16 trillion and still rising at an alarming rate it is disturbing when 46 percent of it, we are told, is borrowed money.

Is it right to pass on such a debt to our children and grandchildren?

The Russians fought the Afghans for 10 years and all they got  from it were casualties and debts.

Shouldn’t we have learned something  from their mistakes and ours in Vietnam and Iraq?

Adding to our financial problems were the gifting of 20 F-16 fighters and 200 to Egypt plus giving them and other nations $250 million.

Is it legal for anyone to make such gifts, especially when our security is at stake?

Can we afford such gifts when we are told that 46 percent of this money was borrowed?

My father used to say, “It is better to do without something than to borrow money, pay interest on it, and perhaps lose what you already have.”
