Dr. Charles Wayne Boyles

Dr. Charles Wayne Boyles, 72, of Russellville, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2013.

He was surrounded by his family.

The funeral service will be Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, Russellville, with burial in Franklin Memory Gardens.  Officiating will be Larry Brewer, Billy Quinn, David Gregg and James McCullar.

Brother Boyles is survived by his wife of 51 years Martha Hamilton Boyles, his daughter Penny Boyles Leeton and husband, Ike, of Oxford, Miss., his daughter- in- law, Cyndie Boyles, of Russellville, and four grandchildren, Jessica Montogmery and husband, Matthew, Jordan Boyles and wife, Brooke, Jonas Boyles, all of Russellville, and Garrett Leeton, of Oxford, Miss.

He also is survived by five siblings: Larry Boyles and wife, Dolly, of Cleveland, Ohio; Sharron Boyles Graham and husband, David; David Boyles and wife, Sheron; Farrell Boyles and wife, Jackie, all of Russellville; Pam Boyles Baker, of Weaver; his brother-in-law, Houston Poss, of Muscle Shoals, and his sister-in-law, Barbara Parrish, of Russellville, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great-granddaughter on the way.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Dwayne Boyles; three siblings, Fostine Boyles Poss, Sandra Boyles Oliver and Ted Grady Boyles; his parents T. R and Rena Boyles; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Mark and Ruth Hamilton, of Russellville.

On May 1, 1974, on the bank of the Tennessee River in Courtland, he was saved and was later baptized by the Avalon Missionary Baptist Church of Muscle Shoals. He accepted his call to preach on Nov. 30, 1975, and was called to pastor the Frankfort Baptist Church in Russellville in July 1976.

In August 1978, Brother Boyles enrolled at the Oxford Baptist Institute in Oxford, Miss., and graduated with his Doctorate in Theology in May 1984. That same year, he accepted the pastorate of South Lamar Baptist Church and the office of President/Instructor of the Oxford Baptist Institute. In April 1992, he was called to pastor Oakwood Baptist Church where he served as pastor for 19 years.

He was the pastor at Avalon Missionary Baptist Church until his death.

Brother Boyles started an outreach ministry through television and radio called “The Master of the Wind” which still airs in multiple states in both mediums. Brother Boyles served as a moderator for the Alabama and Mississippi State Associations, the Yellow Creek Association, the Northwest Mississippi Association, and the Tri-State Association. He has served as the Director for the Yellow Creek Youth Camp numerous times. Throughout his tenure as a pastor, he led many souls to Christ.

Brother Boyles loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and granddaughter. He always made time for anyone who needed to share their burdens or sorrows, or just needed an encouraging word from him. It was often said he never met a stranger.

His warm smile and easy laugh will be missed by all who knew him.
