Russellville home destroyed by fire

A Russellville home was destroyed by a fire last Sunday night, but the man living in the residence was able to escape without sustaining any injuries, officials said.

The Russellville Fire Department responded to a structure fire call at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013.

The fire was reported at a residence located at 1720 North Jackson Ave. inside the city limits.

Russellville Fire Marshal Steve Thornton said a neighbor who had gone outside had noticed flames coming from the home and called 911.

Thornton said the residence was occupied by a man who lived alone in the home.

Thornton said the man was able to escape from the home without sustaining any injuries.
“The firefighters did an excellent job of limiting the fire spread to surrounding structures, which was a difficult job due to how close some of the structures were to each other and the heavy fuel load,” Russellville Fire Chief Joe Mansell said.

“We are thankful that neither the homeowners or any of the firefighters were injured.”
Mansell said units remained on the scene of the fire until 1 a.m.

Thornton said it is believed the fire started in the living room but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by the RFD.
