Belgreen wins big in junior high county tourney

Belgreen narrowly missed a clean sweep of the junior high division of the Franklin County Tournament Saturday at Vina.

The Bulldogs won the 7th/8th grade girls, 7th/8th grade boys, and 9th grade girls games. The Phil Campbell Bobcats took home the 9th grade boys trophy.

7th/8th Grade Girls Division

The Belgreen Bulldogs defeated the Red Bay Tigers 45-22. The Bulldogs led 23-12 at the half. Belgreen had two players in double figures. Callie Barber had 14 points and Mallori Miller had 13 points. Amber Kelton led Red Bay with 10 points.

7th/8th Grade Boys Division

The Belgreen Bulldogs defeated the Tharptown Wildcats 59-46. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats battled back to close the gap to 29-21 at halftime. Belgreen had two players in double figures. Seth Taylor had 20 points and Mason Bragwell had 12 points. Cole Daniel led the Wildcats with 17 points.

9th Grade Girls Division

The Belgreen Bulldogs defeated the Red Bay Tigers 37-24. The Bulldogs led 17-13 at the half but pulled away in the second half. The Bulldogs were led by Shellie Barber’s 17 points. Brooke Shewbart led the Tigers with 15 points.

9th Grade Boys Division

The Phil Campbell Bobcats defeated the Belgreen Bulldogs 48-21. The Bobcats pulled away from the Bulldogs early and never looked back leading 25-7 at halftime. Peyton Thomas led the Bobcats with 19 points and Gage Roberson added 11 points. Hunter Lewey led the Bulldogs with 10 points.
