Twin Pines will host one of the state’s girls’ high school section golf tournaments this week.
Russellville High School will be the host school. The tournament is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, weather permitting.
The tournament will be a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.
There are 69 girls from 23 different 1A-5A high schools across north Alabama competing in the tournament.
Russellville golf coach Jason Haithcock said organizing the tournament has been a challenge but he’s glad to have the opportunity.
“It’s definitely been a learning experience,” Haithcock said. “Trying to communicate with 23 different coaches to get the tournament organized and have the challenges we are have with the weather has been a headache but we are glad to be hosting it.
“It’s a great opportunity for our girls to be able to play on their home course. It should definitely help them as they try to advance to sub-state.”
Haithcock also praised Howard Beall and the Twin Pines staff.
“Howard and Twin Pines have been great,” Haithcock said. “We have been in constant communication every day for the last seven to ten days, especially since we’ve seen what the weather was going to do.
“They want to do this type of tournament more often. Twin Pines welcomes tournaments for young people because it promotes interest in the game of golf.”
Beall is appreciative of the opportunity to host the golf tournament.
“It’s a great way to showcase our course,” Beall said. “It’s a great opportunity. The course is in great shape. We’ve had some work to do because of the severe weather approaching buts that’s okay. We just hope we don’t have any torrential rain or trees down.”
