RHS softball strikes out at area tourney

The Russellville Lady Tiger softball team closed their season with the Area-16 Tournament.

The Tigers played two games on May 1.

In the first game, the Lady Tigers faced Muscle Shoals and fell 11-1. Rachel Hunter pitched for Russellville and only allowed five hits and gained three strikeouts.

Leading the Tigers offensively was Amber Howard, who went two for three, Rachel Hunter added a double, and Ally Willis who singled and scored the Tigers’ lone run on Brooke Borden’s single.

Russellville faced Lawrence County in the second game of the tournament where RHS fell 3-2. Casey Brandenburg pitched an outstanding game only allowing five hits and two earned runs.

RHS scored the first run in the fourth inning with Stacy Godsey scoring on Brooke Borden’s sacrifice bunt. The Tigers scored again in the fifth. Rachel Hunter singled, followed by Ally Willis’ single and Stacy Godsey’s RBI single. Sydney Burcham and Kalli Beth Daniel had two hits each in Russellville’s tough loss. Lawrence County scored three runs in the top of the sixth on Katie Borden’s 3-run home run.

“We have taken the first step in our goal to make post season play,” said head coach John Smith. “We have set high expectations for Lady Tiger Softball and are looking forward to a great summer of hard work and travel ball.”

Russellville Lady Tiger Softball finished with a record of 11-34.
