The Russellville Golden Tigers will wrap up their spring training this Friday night when they host Pleasant Grove in a spring football contest.

The game will be in a normal format except there will be no contact in special teams.

New Golden Tiger head coach Mark Heaton said spring training has gone as planned so far.

“There has been so much change for these kids but last week we seemed to be coming together and getting on the same page,” Heaton said.

“Spring has been crucial for us in a sense that the guys are getting to know what we expect from practice and from them as individuals.”

Heaton said he had two primary goals coming into spring training and he believes they are well on their way to achieving those goals.

“One of our goals this spring was to create a family atmosphere,” he said. “I think we’ve taken a giant step forward to reaching that goal. Summer workouts will be critical getting us to where we want to be.

“We also wanted to establish a high tempo practice. That is how we plan to play and we want to practice that way. We are making great strides but we are not there yet.”

Heaton said he expects everyone to get a chance to get on the field and show what they can do Friday night against Pleasant Grove.

“We are going to play our varsity and our junior varsity,” Heaton said.

“We want everyone to get a chance to compete and enjoy the opportunity.”

Kickoff for the RHS spring jamboree is set for 7 p.m.
