RBCEP hosting rodeo

HODGES – The Rock Bridge Canyon Equestrian Park will be hosting a rodeo June 20-21, and organizers of the event said it’s something residents won’t want to miss.

RBCEP activities director Tina Lawler said the Rock Bridge Canyon Rodeo will feature seven events, games and contests, activities for the kids, and a very special guest to serve as the grand marshal of the event.

“We are very excited to announce that Jim Porter, the national president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) will be the grand marshal of our rodeo this year,” Lawler said.

“It’s a great honor that he will be coming out to this event and that we will have other officials like Sen. Roger Bedford, Congressman Robert Aderholt and Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow in attendance as well.”

Lawler said the gates will open at 6:30 on Friday and the evening’s events, hosted by Porter, will begin at 7:30.

She said there will be a youth rodeo on Saturday from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. for ages 12-15. Activities for Saturday evening will also kick off at 7:30 p.m.

“This is going to be a really great, family friendly, fun event,” Lawler said.

“There will be games and contests, a chicken chase, Western-wear vendors, food, cotton candy, activities for the kids, and of course the rodeo itself.

“It’s going to be a really great two-day event, and we hope everyone will come out and enjoy it with us.”

Tickets for the rodeo are $10 and can be purchased at the RBCEP camp store in Hodges or at the gate. Bleachers are available but guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs as well.
