Ishimeal Nance signed a scholarship June 27 to play basketball at Snead State Community College next year.

Nance played for Muscle Shoals High School and was the 2013-2014 4A-5A Player of the Year.

Nance was assisted in landing at Snead State by Glen Jackson and Southeastern Athletics in Russellville, a recruiting service that helps students find athletic opportunities at everything from two-year schools to major universities.

Jackson said parents call his service and then they go from there.

“A student’s parents usually contact me and then I start the process of looking for a good fit for them,” Jackson said.

“We do mail-outs and send video footage and things like that in order to find a school that is interested in the athlete and will be a good fit for them and their family.”

Jackson said that Nance had a few options in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama.

“Ishimeal had some options to end up at a few different schools, but Snead State ended up being the best fit for him,” Jackson said.

“He will be able to play and go to school and not be too far from home.

“I heard back from Snead State and they were interested and so we sent some video footage over and they were still interested.

“He went down there and worked out with the team and they liked him and he (Nance) seemed to like it there, too.”

Nance is listed at 6’5’’ and 205 lbs. and finished with a 3.0 GPA. Nance said he is planning on majoring in Civil Engineering. With a score of 20 on the ACT, Jackson said Nance was able to have options when deciding where to land.

“A 20 is a pretty good score,” Jackson said.

“He is a pretty smart kid and young. He is going to do well.”
