Chamber holding gingerbread contest

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 1st Annual Holly Day Gingerbread House Contest in conjunction with the 1st Annual Holly Day even on Dec. 6 at the A.W. Todd Centre in downtown Russellville.

The two different judging categories will be the Youth Category (ages 12 and under), and the Adult Category (ages 13 and up). Both categories will be judged based on overall appearance, creativity and originality, difficulty, technique and skill, and use of candy and color.

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category and awards will be announced at the 1st Annual Holly Day event on Dec. 6.

Entry fee is $5 for the Youth Category and $10 for the Adult Category. Entry forms can be picked up at the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce office or at www.franklincountychamber.org.

All entries must be delivered to the A.W. Todd Centre on Saturday, Dec. 6 between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. An entry form must accompany each structure. All Gingerbread House entries must be in the form of a house. All entries are to be constructed on a base made of plywood or similar material to provide a sturdy, non-flexible platform. Bases must be no larger than 24” x 24”. Entries must not exceed 24” high. The main structure (house) must be made of gingerbread and all visible materials must be edible. No artificial interior materials, such as Styrofoam, are to be used to construct or decorate the house. Please label the underside of the display base with your name and phone number. All houses will be on display Dec. 6 until 2 p.m. All houses not picked up by the end of today will be disposed of. Only one Gingerbread House per entry form is permitted and individuals may have only one entry in each category.
