Vina SGA receives state and national flags

State Rep. Johnny Morrow and a representative for U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt visited Vina High School Jan. 15 and they had some special gifts in tow.

The Student Government Association requested a state flag as well as a United States flag back in Oct. and held an event last Thursday where Morrow spoke about the importance of local government.

Vina SGA president Matt Davidson said they had been looking forward to this since the fall.

“We knew it would take a little while for us to receive these flags, but it was something we wanted to do as a group,” Davidson said.

The flags that were presented to the SGA have flown over the United States capitol back during the fall.

“We wanted to do something like this to promote state pride,” Davidson said. “We wanted to fight some of the apathy in this generation.

“Coach Hamilton is one of our representatives for SGA here at Vina and he always talks about how crucial it is to learn about our government,” Davidson said. “He always talks about fighting the apathy and learning more and expanding our knowledge about how the government works.”
