PCHS Wins County FFA Forestry Competition

Phil Campbell High School took the top spot in the Franklin County FFA Forestry Judging Career Development Event. Four senior members of the school’s FFA worked together to complete the requirements of the competition and bring home first place.

Included in the competition were a general knowledge examination, timber cruising/estimating and measurement of standing tree study guide. PCHS Agriscience teacher and FFA Sponsor Jonathan King said, “They give you a situation. Let’s say you’re managing for saw timber. The students had to go out there and decide what to do with the selected trees – whether to leave them or keep them or harvest them.”

PCHS Senior Alston Tidwell said, “I had fun, and we’re ready to win again at district.” The group now moves on to a district competition that will be held in spring 2016 at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.
