Book Lovers hold December meeting

Book Lovers held its December meeting at the home of Hillary Hall, hostess, with co-hostesses Susie Malone and Hayley Fuller. After socializing and touring Hall’s beautifully-decorated house, members and guests enjoyed a delicious dinner.

The inspiration, “The Reason for the Season,” was presented by Gayle McAlister. Diane Pace, local author, presented the program on “Living the Volunteer Spirit … We Can Do It With Children’s Books.”  She read a winter story as depicted in the book, “Owl Moon.” The Federation Moments /GFWC-AFWC LEADS were presented by Shelia Upchurch.

Final plans were discussed for the Christmas Tour of Homes that was held Dec. 13 from 1-5 p.m. Proceeds from the Christmas Tour will be used for the education scholarship, local libraries and helping the needy. Brochures showing pictures and a brief write-up on each house – Danny and Johnette Davis, Chase Sparks, Michelle and Jim Sibley and Bennett Hall – along with the Presbyterian Church and the Historic Roxy Theatre, were distributed to each member.

Hostess assignments were made, and ticket sales money was collected.

Information regarding the Success for Survivors Scholarship will be given to the Safe Place director. Patricia Cox coordinated the gift exchange, and Christmas game ideas were shared. To conclude the fun evening, members were invited to tour Chase Sparks’ house as a preview for the Christmas Tour of Homes.
