ADOR offers free tax workshop to business owners

New or current business owners with tax questions are invited to mark their calendars to attend the Alabama Department of Revenue’s free Business Workshop scheduled for Feb. 16 from 9:30 a.m. until noon in Florence.

The workshop will be held in the Shoals Center for Business and Economics at Shoals Chamber of Commerce, 20 Hightower Place. It will be the only such workshop offered by the ADOR in the northwest Alabama area.

“This workshop is a wonderful opportunity for new or well-established businesses to receive tax information required by the State of Alabama,” said Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Director Cassie Medley. “The Franklin County Chamber appreciates the state revenue department offering this workshop to our county. I hope local businesses plan to attend and receive information that will benefit them and our county.”

ADOR presenters will cover a variety of state tax information topics, including employer withholding taxes, state and local sales taxes, property taxes and business licensing requirements. An overview of Alabama’s business tax electronic filing programs also will be presented.

This workshop is designed to keep current and future business owners up-to-date with law changes, and it gives them a chance to ask experts particular questions relating to their businesses.

Workshop participants will receive information about Alabama’s ONE SPOT, a free Internet filing and payment portal that allows business taxpayers to file and pay state, county, and city sales, use and rental taxes all in one place. Phillip Marks with the Small Business Development Center-PTAC at the University of North Alabama will also be participating in this workshop.
