Eddie Britton announces candidacy for Franklin County Board of Education

Dr. Eddie Britton, long-time principal at Belgreen High School, has announced his candidacy for the Franklin County Board of Education, Place 4.

Dr. Britton has 38 years of educational experience. He served as principal of Belgreen High School for 21 years and taught math and chemistry for 11 years in Franklin County. Dr. Britton’s classroom experience includes three years at Red Bay High School, four years at Phil Campbell High School and four years at Belgreen High School while also serving as assistant principal at BHS. He also served as an adjunct mathematics instructor at Northwest–Shoals Community College on a part-time basis for 11 years. Dr. Britton left Belgreen High School at the end of the 2007 school year to accept the position of principal of Tishomingo County High School, a large consolidated high school in Mississippi.

Dr. Britton believes that one of the most important issues facing education is to make sure that all decisions are made based on what is best for the students. He also believes that the faculty and staff members of the schools must be supported and given the tools necessary to do their best to give students the finest education possible. Dr. Britton believes that the school system must be run in a financially responsible manner and all employees must exemplify class, high moral character, honesty, integrity, and commitment to excellence. He believes in having high expectations, hiring the best educators possible, making learning fun and engaging and emphasizing professionalism.

Dr. Britton has been blessed to receive numerous leadership awards during his career.  He believes that he can use these same strengths along with his vast experience in two states to help in working with the new superintendent and the other members of the Board to move Franklin County forward.

Dr. Eddie Britton is married to Kathy, his wife of 38 years. They have two children and four grandchildren. Their grandchildren are the sixth known generation to attend Belgreen High School. Dr. Britton and Kathy are active members of the Belgreen United Methodist Church. He is also a member of The Gideons International and the Florence Rotary Club.
