SWCD opens scholarship application

The Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for a $500 scholarship sponsored by the Alabama Conservation District Employees Association.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are high school seniors living in the State of Alabama. Applications may be picked up from the school guidance counselor or at the Franklin County SWCD office, 13150 Highway 43, Suite 7A, Russellville. The application packet includes letters of recommendation, information about financial and academic situation and a brief paragraph about how the scholarship will help the applicant. SWCD’s Beth Rhea said the selection is weighted toward excellent grade point average, extra-curriculars and community service.

Last year’s winner, said Rhea, was from Tharptown.

Deadline to receive completed applications in the district office is March 4, 2016. For more information, contact Rhea at 256-332-0274.
