Elizabeth Matthews Clark

Elizabeth Matthews Clark, age 91, of Russellville, passed away Feb. 28 at Burns Nursing Home.

Mrs. Clark was a God-fearing, kind Christian woman who loved her Lord, her family, neighbors and friends.  She was always willing to lend a helping hand and taught her family to never give up on God. She was a member of West Highland Baptist Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and her family fondly remembers her catchphrases as “Blame It” and “Lord have mercy.”

The visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. March 2 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. James McCullar officiating. Burial will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Liberty Hill.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Jessica Daugherty and fiancé Tommy Sanders, Chris Daugherty, John Daugherty, Jessica Daugherty, Chris Daugherty, Shawn Daugherty, Bryan Clark, Kim Clark and Cindy Clark; great-grandchildren, Shonta Daugherty, Austin Daugherty, Noah Daugherty, Phillip Daugherty and Eric Daugherty; great-great-grandchildren, Ka’myah Daugherty and Jayden Little; sister, Beatrice Cunningham (of Illinois); and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Clark; son, Robert Edward “Sonny” Clark Jr.; daughter, Shirley Daugherty; parents, Jessie and Josie Matthews; six brothers; and one sister.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Pounders, Frankie Hubbard, Noah Daugherty, Chris Daugherty, Andrew Heath, Austin Daugherty, Brian and Jay.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Burns Nursing Home, as well as to Dr. John Almirol and his staff, for the wonderful care shown to their grandmother.
