Timothy (Tim) Ray Bishop, D.C.
Timothy (Tim) Ray Bishop, D.C., passed from this life March 2 at Huntsville Hospital following an extended illness. He was 61.
Born June 7, 1954, he grew up in Russellville. He was a 1972 graduate of Russellville High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of North Alabama in 1976. He worked as a disc jockey and radio station manager in the Shoals area before deciding to become a chiropractor. He earned his doctor of chiropractic degree with honors from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1983. He was an associate for two years at Swickard Chiropractic Clinic in Overland Park, Kansas. He returned to Russellville in 1985 and developed a thriving clinic, relieving patients’ pain and helping them to enjoy healthier lives.
He was a loving husband and father who cherished his time with family. He was a pillar of his community. As the “Voice of the Golden Tigers,” he served as play-by-play announcer for the Russellville High School football team for over 30 years. He was a two-term school board member for the Russellville City School System, serving as board president during his tenure. He was an inductee to the Franklin County Sports Hall of Fame and was a previous Russellville Citizen of the Year. He was a longtime member of the Russellville Rotary Club and volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. He coached Little League baseball for many years, including several championship All-Star teams. He was an avid sports fan and music lover.
Dr. Bishop was a devout Christian and member of Eastside Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon, bible class teacher, song leader and mentor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Ray Bishop.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan Darlene Bishop, Russellville; son, Dr. Elliot Sumner Bishop, Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Erin Blair Bishop, Birmingham; mother, Melva Jean Bishop, Russellville; brother, Dr. Kenneth (Ken) Garland Bishop, Mobile; one daughter-in-law, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, four nephews and two nieces.
The pallbearers will be Lucas Bishop, Tyler Bishop, Bert Ward, Ryan Ward, Mark Williams and Brandon Wiman.
Visitation was held March 5 from noon to 2 p.m. at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville. The funeral service followed at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. Mike Morrow Jr., and Bro. Johnny Richardson officiating. Burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.
He was loved and respected by his family, friends, and patients. He will be missed by all but never forgotten.
