Golden Tigers golf to triumph

The Russellville boys golf team beat Haleyville, Tharptown and Phil Campbell at Twin Pines golf course during a recent match-up.

Haleyville was the only school present that had enough players to meet team requirements. Russellville’s team score was 142, while Haleyville’s team score was 184. Russellville was led to victory by Eli Hodges, who shot a 36; Joshua Seal, who shot a 34; and Tristan Tubb, who shot a 34 – winning over all opponents from Tharptown and Phil Campbell as well as Haleyville.

The Russellville boys’ golf team also played March 14 against Lawrence County at Twin Pines golf course. The top five averaged a score of 150, being led by Tubb, who shot a 35, and Hodges, who shot a 37. The Lawrence County boys’ golf team averaged a score of 208, falling short to the Golden Tigers.

The bottom five Russellville boys’ golf team players averaged a score of 188 at the tournament, but Lawrence County only had six players, meaning the bottom five from Russellville didn’t have a team to compete against.

The Russellville boys’ golf team will be play tomorrow in the Trojan Invitational at Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.

The Russellville girls golf team played against Lawrence County as well March 14. Russellville had some tough competition to overcome, and the Lady Golden Tigers took on the challenge. Russellville ended up with the final score of 142 to Lawrence County’s 176 for a Golden Tiger win. The girs also played in the Fairview Invitational March 17 but came up short against their competition.

The girls’ golf team will be playing against James Clemens March 23.
