April 16, Southside Baptist Church held its annual car show fundraiser for Relay for Life. This event has been raising money to fight cancer since 1995 – the same year Russellville started having Relay.

The fundraiser is organized by Jimmy Montgomery and Mousey Brown. Both Montgomery and Brown are cancer survivors, which is one reason they organize the car show each year.

“There are a lot of folks who are cancer survivors,” said Montgomery. “A lot of people have lost family to cancer – there is a high rate of cancer around here.”

The car show featured trucks, tractors and motorcycles, in addition to classic cars. The show is widely enjoyed – many came to enjoy the sunny day as well as check out some antique cars. One owner drove 52 miles to enter his Chevrolet. But all came to support the cause.

“I came because it’s a relaxing day to get out and enjoy my day, and also because I support Relay for Life. I’ve had a few family members to pass with cancer,” said attendee Danny Puckett.
