The Phil Campbell Bobcats’ baseball season came to an end at Mars Hill over the weekend. Mars Hill swept the Bobcats, winning game one 5-1 and game two 3-1.

Colby Baker delivered Phil Campbell’s lone run in game one with a solo home run.

The Bobcats only managed three hits in game one.

In game two, Phil Campbell scored their lone run after a Peyton Thomas double and later came around to score. The Bobcats loaded the bases in the fifth inning of game two, but a line drive by Gage Roberson was grabbed out of the air by the Mars Hill first basema,n ending a potential Phil Campbell rally on an unassisted double play.

“That was a big play,” said Bobcat Coach Jonathan Raper. “Gage hit a shot. The kid just made a great play.”

Phil Campbell ended the 2016 season with a 21-17 record.

“Mars Hill is a very good team and could win it all. I thought we had a good season,” said Raper. “We are still a young team. We played a tough schedule and had to overcome some injuries, but we have laid a good foundation and have high expectations for the future.”
