Golden Tiger signs for golf

When Snead State Community College’s first-year golf program begins this year, a Golden Tiger will be part of it.

Joshua Seal signed Tuesday at the Russellville field house to play golf at Snead under Coach Chuck Kalanick. Seal said he feels blessed to have the opportunity to continue his golf career in college – a sport he played only casually until he joined the school team in high school.

“Joshua’s a great kid; I think he’s got a bright future,” Coach Ryan Brewer said. “I’m really proud.”

Seal shot a 77 average this season, and Brewer said his strong short game is sure to be an asset at Snead. “I’ve seen him chip in several balls off the green,” Brewer said. He has also managed to “make some pretty amazing shots from difficult situations.”

Kalanick said he is confident Seal is a good fit with the other golfers he has signed and said Seal’s consistency was a big draw.

“His scores are low enough and consistent enough that I don’t have to worry about him,” Kalanick said. “He knows what he’s doing.”

Mom Kim Seal said she’s excited for her son to have this opportunity. “He’s worked hard, so I’m glad he’s getting to go on and pursue his dream of playing golf.”
