Book Lovers host last meeting of year

Book Lovers’ end-of-the-year meeting was a covered dish dinner served on the beautiful patio of Carolyn Porter’s home. Gayle McAlister served as co-hostess for the evening. Club members enjoyed socializing and dining.

President Cheri McCain presided over her last meeting as president of Book Lovers Club. In the business meeting, the minutes were approved. McCain reported on the State AFWC Convention that she, Patricia Cox and Susie Malone attended. Book Lovers received many awards at the State AFWC Convention: first place (in club size category) for Fundraising and Development, Membership, Legislation & Public Policy, Communication & Public Relations, Public Issues and Community Service Program. Book Lovers was recognized for the AFWC President’s Award of Excellence and the Sue Ellen Brazil Outstanding Club Award for the state.

The members voted to donate $100 to each of the following libraries: Russellville Public Library; RHS Library; RMS Library; RES Library; and WES Library.

Malone, scholarship chairman, reported that Book Lovers presented two scholarships: Hannah Keller, $500, and Sierra Eady, $300, at the RHS Awards Night Program.

McCain gave a brief recap of all the projects, fundraisers and accomplishments of the club over the past two years and thanked the members for their support and hard work.

The inspiration was given by Audrey Herring. The institute “Summer Volunteer Opportunities” was presented by Martha Sibley.

The program focus was the installation of the new officers. McCain did a beautiful installation using tea cups. Officers for the 2016-2018 administration are Susie Malone, president; Shelia Upchurch, vice-president; Nina McNatt, recording secretary; Hillary Hall, corresponding secretary; Hayley Fuller, treasurer; Lela Ray, historian; and Cheri McCain, parliamentarian. Incoming President Malone thanked McCain for an outstanding job as president and presented her a plaque and a gift in appreciation from the club.
