United Way plans Day of Action

Each year on or around June 21, United Way invites communities to improve the conditions in which they live by volunteering with United Way. This year, United Way of Northwest Alabama is collecting items for the homeless and for Pre-K classrooms in the area.

The following items are needed for the homeless:

  • Canned meat
  • Canned beans
  • Hearty soups
  • Canned fruit
  • Chef Boyardee meals
  • Ramen noodles
  • Instant oatmeal or cereal
  • Reusable grocery bags
  • Toilet paper
  • Plastic utensils
  • Macaroni and cheese (not powdered)
  • Peanut butter (small plastic jars)
  • Crackers
  • Granola bars
  • Powdered milk
  • Slim Jims
  • Can openers
  • Seasonings and hot sauce

The following items are being collected for Pre-K classrooms:

  • Sharpie markers
  • Teacher planners/calendars
  • Child-size scissors
  • Crayola Washable Markers
  • GermX
  • Glue sticks
  • Crayons
  • Clorox wipes
  • Kids paint brushes
  • Staplers
  • BandAids
  • Playdoh
  • Liquid hand soap
  • Packages of stickers
  • Sticky tack
  • Glitter
  • Ziplock bags (gallon & sandwich)
  • Colored tissue paper
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Paper plates
  • Paper lunch bags
  • QTips
  • Outdoor balls
  • Watercolor paints
  • White printer paper
  • Bubbles

Items can be donated at any CB&S Bank in Franklin County.
