RPD arrests one after stabbing

Two victims suffered stab wounds, and one suspect is in jail, after an altercation Sunday morning.

Russellville Police Department officers responded to an altercation between a husband and wife on St. Clair Street Sunday morning. Before arriving at the location of the incident, officers located two victims on South Jackson Avenue. One of the victims, an adult female, had been stabbed multiple times. The other victim, a juvenile, had a single stab wound to the neck.

Both victims were immediately transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The adult victim and the suspect – Joel Andres Lopez, 36 – are married and were having a domestic argument. According to the police report, during the course of the argument, the suspect became irate and violent and used a knife to assault his wife. While assaulting his wife, their son attempted to intervene and then was assaulted also.

The juvenile suffered a single stab wound to his neck. Lopez reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.

Victims were transferred to the Huntsville Hospital for treatment and later released. Lopez turned

himself in the next day at the Russellville Police Department and is in custody at the Russellville City Jail awaiting bond.

Lopez has been charged with attempted murder and domestic violence-assault first degree.
