RHS plans softball tourneys
Last year ended with a softball state championship appearance for the Russellville High School Lady Golden Tigers. Like all high school athletic programs, part of success for the Lady Golden Tigers will be continuing funding, and the team is setting out to make that happen by hosting a few travel ball team tourneys in July.
“We have scheduled them as fundraisers and opportunities to see our future Golden Tigers,” explained Coach John Smith, who led the RHS team to its first state appearance in school history this spring. “We can also see our current Golden Tigers working to get better for our team.”
The tourneys are catering to 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U as well as high school teams. Smith said in past years, the tourneys have been successful fundraisers.
“Our tournament … has been rained out the last two seasons, costing us some big money,” Smith said. “In 2014 we had 24 teams scheduled to play, and in 2015 we had 28 teams scheduled to play.”
Money raised will help to cover the costs of bats, softballs, transportation and tournament fees for the Lady Golden Tigers. Tournaments are scheduled for the remaining weekends in July.
