Red Bay clinches decisive win against Hatton

The Red Bay Tigers rolled off 24 unanswered points in the last 25 minutes of their game against Hatton Friday night to get a 30-7 win over the Hornets.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Red Bay Tigers scored first on an 80-yard run by Jesus Kelly with 5:54 to go in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead. Hatton responded on the ensuing drive to get the Hornets’ lone score of the night and take a short-lived 7-6 lead.

Red Bay retook the lead with 54 seconds to go in the first half on a 16-yard pass from Kolby Bragwell to Kelly. Tate Ozbirn would carry the ball into the endzone for the two-point conversion to give Red Bay a 14-7 first half lead.

The second half was all Red Bay. The Tigers scored on a one-yard run by Bragwell to extend their lead to 21-7 with 3:43 to go in the third quarter. The Tiger defense got in on the scoring action in the fourth quarter when Kurtlan Hiser took the Hornet quarterback in the endzone for a safety, extending the score to 23-7 with 3:43 to go in the game.

After the safety, the Hornets had to kick to the Tigers, who marched down the field and scored their final touchdown on the night on a three-yard run by Ozbirn.

Red Bay racked up 390 total yards on the night and held Hatton to just 132 total yards.

Ozbirn led the Tigers with 27 carries, 150 yards and two touchdowns. Kelly ran the ball seven times for 111 yards and had one catch for 16 yards and two touchdowns. Bragwell passed for 84 yards and a touchdown.
