Joe Pirtle Basham

Joe Pirtle Basham, 86, passed away Oct. 7 at his residence. He was a member of Eastside Church of Christ in Red Bay and was retired from American Motors after 32 years as superintendent of Motor Division. Mr. Basham also served in the U.S. Air Force.

Funeral services will be Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, with Danny Fuller and Elmo Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Zola Basham; daughter, Susan Leveritt and husband AJ; four grandchildren, Stephanie Hood, Stephen Hood and wife Michelle, Leah Williamson and husband Luke and Chris Granson; seven great-grandchildren, Morgan Taylor, Dylan Taylor, Easton Hood, Avery Hood, Skylar Beam, Thomas Beam and Liza Williamson; one great-great-grandson, Oakley Taylor; one sister, Jane Whitener; four sisters-in-law, Mary Hall, Sula Maxcy, Syble Holmes and husband Bill and Erma Wilson; brother-in-law Elmo Wilson and wife Diane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Polly Basham; a brother, James Hardy Basham; a daughter, Lee Ann Hood; five brothers-in-law, Harold Maxcy, Lawrence Hall, Kenneth Bentley, Ed Brandt and Tommy Wilson; and one sister-in-law, Mauvileen Brandt.

Visitation will be Oct. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay.
