Vernon Coats

Vernon Coats, 92, passed away Nov. 6 at his residence. He was born in Belgreen and worked as a furnace operator with U.S. Reduction. He was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church, Vina.

Services will be Nov. 8, at noon at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, with Bro. Bobby Massey officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina.

Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Everlean Coats, Vina; four children, Joyce Cummings and husband Edward, Sue Raper and husband Gary and Ricky Coats and wife Myra, all of Vina, and Bruce Coats and wife Patsy of Belmont, Miss.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shellie Scott, Ruby Honeycutt and Dorothy Rollins; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Obe Dith Coats and Mattie Jane Bonds Coats; one grandchild, Rita Cummings; one great-grandchildren, Lizabeth Coats; and brothers and sisters, LoraBell Holcomb, Ardie Dell Gober, Delmar Cantrell, Avis Coats, Ollie Gober, Betty Hester, Hettie Driskell, Othar Coats, Loyd Coats and Arnice Coats.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Greg Cummings, Dewayne Raper, Zakary Coats, Chase Coats, Josh Coats and Austin Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Saturday Dominos Players.

Visitation will be Nov. 7 from 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay.
