Hubert Ray Motes

Hubert Ray Motes, age 70, of Spruce Pine, passed away Nov. 9.

Visitation will be Nov. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Akins Funeral Home Russellville. Funeral services will be Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Akins Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Henson officiating. Burial will be in Spruce Pine Cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virle and Annie Mae Hood Motes.

Hubert Ray Motes was the husband of Judy Gandy Motes and dad to Jason Motes, Jeremy Motes and Jonathan Motes and wife Sarah, Paw Paw to Bailey Motes, Cole Motes, Kaylie Motes, Hunter Motes, Shooter Motes, Aiden Grace Motes and Georgia Motes and brother to Faye Wright and husband Phil, Shirley Lawler and husband Leonard, Gennell King and husband Tommy, and Lavon Duboise (Delmar). Hubert was a loving husband, dad, paw paw and brother.

He was born March 8, 1946, in Franklin County to Virle and Annie Mae Hood Motes.

He was a lifelong resident of Spruce Pine, and he attended Phil Campbell High School, where he graduated in 1964.

Mr. Motes joined the United States Army in 1965. He served during the Vietnam era.

He retired from TVA, where he worked for almost 40 years, many of those as foreman in the office service warehouse.

Mr. Motes was an avid sports fan, enjoying sports across the spectrum. All three of his sons played sports at Phil Campbell High School. He was a friend to many, and you always knew where he stood. He spoke his mind.

Pallbearers will be Brett Borden, Steven King, Eric Wright, Michael Lawler, Clint Tittle, Trae Tittle, Josh Tittle, Adam Lawler, Jamie Lawler and Jeff Massey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bailey Motes, Cole Motes, Hunter Motes, Shooter Motes and Skylar King.
