Joyce Cleta Holland Ozbirn

Joyce Cleta Holland Ozbirn, 77, passed away Nov. 22 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Florence, after a brief illness. She was born in Franklin County. She worked for Nielson Ratings in Chicago, Ill., and was a secretary and underwriter for an insurance company and medical records for more than 20 years. She was a member of Goodsprings Freewill Baptist Church, Vina.

Services were held Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Humphries officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery, Vina.

Survivors are two children, Kevin W. Ozbirn, Decatur, Ga., and Joyce K. Scott and husband Roger, Red Bay; three grandchildren, Melissa Scott, Cheryl Scott and Tyler Scott; one brother, Phona Holland and wife Esther, Waukegan, Ill.; two sisters, Clarice Jackson, Red Bay, and Nell Humphries, Haleyville; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Ozbirn; parents, James Jefferson Holland and Dona Isabelle Jackson Holland; a brother, Roy Holland; a sister, Roxie Singleton; and two infant brothers.

Pallbearers were Tyler Scott, Jimmy Fowler, Donnie Jackson, David DeFoor, Steven Singleton and Charles Holland.

Visitation was Nov. 25, 5-8 p.m., at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, and she laid in state Nov. 26 from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
