The Belgreen High School softball team hosted the second annual 3-on-3 basketball fundraiser Saturday. The tournament also included a three-point shooting contest and a free throw shooting contest.

“This is becoming a very good fundraiser for us,” said Belgreen softball Coach Chris Scott. “Belgreen is traditionally a strong basketball school. This community loves basketball and competing, and this incorporates all that together.”

The tournament is beginning to attract some top talent as well. One of the participants this year was Bart Hyche, the starting point guard on Mississippi State’s 1996 Final Four basketball team.

The 3-point winner was Chandler Brown.

Scott said girls softball continues to grow in popularity across the state and at Belgreen, and the community’s support is critical to his team’s success.

Free throw winner was Abe Thorn.

“Our girls here at Belgreen love to compete,” said Scott. “I think that is why we have been successful at basketball and softball. We work together to the benefit of our girls.

“I appreciate all the support the community and school have provided to us and continue to provide to us.”
