RHS FCCLA members, parenting students collect snacks for SafePlace

Students in parenting class and FCCLA members at Russellville High School recently collected snacks for children receiving services at SafePlace, which utilizes a counseling service for children called Learning to be Kids. This counseling service uses play as a way to talk with children about violence they have seen in the homes they are escaping from. Snacks collected by the students will be used during the snack time portion of the LBK program. SafePlace representative Leah Heathcoat took some time to speak to students and FCCLA members about the services provided by SafePlace when she came to accept the donation. “Community service is an important component within the FCCLA organization,” teacher sponsor Cindy Coan said. “It is hoped that with participation in this activity the student members will learn the importance of giving back to the community, and it can shed light on the problem of domestic violence and the resources available to help those affected by the violence.”
