Belgreen 81, Tharptown 60

In their first matchup of the season, the Belgreen Bulldogs outpaced the Tharptown Wildcats to pick an 81-60 area win.

Both teams started on an amazing scoring pace with Belgreen leading Tharptown 29-22 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs continued the pace in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 27-18 to take a 56-40 lead at halftime. Belgreen extended the lead to 66-43 at the end of the third quarter en route to the area win.

“It was just one of those nights,” said Belgreen Coach Clint Isbell. “We had a lot of energy, and we played up tempo all the way. Our shots were falling. It was a fun game.”

The Bulldogs shot 59 percent from the field and hit seven three pointers in their 56-point first half.

“Most games I would be happy to have 40 points at halftime,” said Tharptown Coach Jonathan Odom. “We just couldn’t score consistently and keep up the pace tonight.”

Belgreen had four players in double figures. Mason Bragwell led Belgreen with 18 points. Joseph Welch added 14 points, Brant Bragwell had 11 points and Adam Green finished with ten points. Eli Hiser had nine points, Jacob Mayberry and Payton School had six points each, Grayson Moore finished with four points, Seth Taylor had two points and Shand Devaney added one point.

Alex Argueta led Tharptown with 12 points. Cole Daniel added nine points, Carson Petree and Mikey Rosson had eight points each, Levi McCormack had seven points, Matt Hall finished with six points, Joel Mojica five points and Misael Saldana three points.

Phil Campbell 45, Red Bay 38

The Phil Campbell Bobcats defeated the Red Bay Tigers Monday afternoon 45-38. Phil Campbell jumped out to a 13-6 first quarter lead, but the Tigers cut into the lead, outscoring the Bobcats 9-7 in the second quarter to make the score 20-15 at halftime. Both teams played to a draw in the third quarter, scoring 13 points each. Phil Campbell held on in the fourth quarter, outscoring Red Bay 12-10 to get the win.

Thomas Baker led the Bobcats with 20 points. Rhett Benford added ten points. Hayden Copeland and Gage Roberson added four points each. Peyton Thomas had three points and Jacob Anthony two points.

Colton Corum led Red Bay with 15 points. Levi McNatt added seven points and Peyton Green six points. Aeron Moore and Hunter Bays netted three points each. Gath Weatherford and Noah Brewer scored two points each.

Phillips 70, Tharptown 49

Phillips steadily outpaced the Tharptown Wildcats in an area contest last week, 70-49.

Phillips led Tharptown 13-10 at the end of the first quarter and 32-21 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter the Bears led 49-33 en route to the win.

Matt Hall led Tharptown with 20 points. Alex Argueta added 11 points. Levi McCormack, Misael Saldana and Mikey Rosson had seven points each. Braden Key and Winston Nolen had four points each. Cole Daniel added three points, and Carson Petree had two points.
