County girls basketball – Red Bay, Belgreen pick two wins last week

Red Bay 49, Phil Campbell 31

When the Red Bay Tigers and Phil Campbell Bobcats met at Red Bay earlier in the year, the game was a shootout to the end. This time Red Bay steadily put the Bobcats away, winning the area contest 49-31.

Red Bay led Phil Campbell 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers extended their lead to 27-15 by halftime. Red Bay outscored Phil Campbell 8-4 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 35-19 as they cruised to the win.

Red Bay’s Allie Kennedy hit four three-pointers on her way to a game-high 24 points. Darby Madden scored all 11 of her points from the free throw line, going 11-for-12. Reagan Kuykendall, Mallori Miller and Carlie Lindley scored four points each. Carlee Humphrees and Jordynn McKinney added one point each.

Darby Elliott led Phil Campbell with 15 points. Dakota Elliott had six points, Abby Davis added five points, Bethany Harris three points and Chloe Roberson two points.

Belgreen 56, Tharptown 35

The Belgreen Bulldogs got hot Thursday night as they faced off with the Tharptown Wildcats in an area battle, winning 56-35.

Belgreen hit five three-pointers in the first half to vault the Bulldogs ahead of the Wildcats.

“We had been struggling for a few games,” said Belgreen Coach Chad Green. “We needed to start hitting those shots, and tonight we did.”

Belgreen led Tharptown 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 27-17 at halftime. The Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats 16-6 in the third quarter to take a 43-23 lead. The Bulldogs hit 9-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Gabbie Moore led Tharptown with 13 points. Jasmine Martin had eight points, Brianna Wood finished with six points, Katie Dempsey and Emma Dempsey had six points each, Emma Willingham and Shellie Barber had five points each, Camie Terrell had four points, and Kaycee Wilson added two points.

Brooke Daily led Tharptown with 12 points. Linda Bahena had eight points, Aly Vandiver six points, and Klaudia Harris had three points. Jessica Wilson, Sierra Robinson and Adrianna Borden had two points each.

Belgreen 50, Shoals Christian 27

The Belgreen Bulldogs had no problem putting out the Shoals Christian Flame last week, winning 50-27. The Bulldogs led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 26-9 by halftime. The Bulldogs kept the pace going in the third quarter to outscore Shoals Christian 12-2 to take a 38-11 lead into the final period of play.

Katie Dempsey led Belgreen with 19 points. Gabbie Moore had 11 points, and Emma Dempsey finished with ten points. Jasmine Martin had six points, Megan Smith four points, Camie Terrell two points and Brianna Wood one point.

Red Bay 53, Sulligent 26

The Red Bay Tigers dispatched area opponent Sulligent with no problems last week, 53-26. The Tigers led the Blue Devils 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 36-16 at halftime en route to the easy win.

Darby Madden led Red Bay with 26 points. Allie Kennedy had 18 points. Reagan Kuykendall finished with four points, Mallori Miller had three points, and Autumn Higginbottom added two points.

Phillips 57, Tharptown 47

The Tharptown Wildcats led the Phillips Bear by one point at halftime, but a strong third quarter barrage by the Bears doomed the Wildcats to a 57-47 loss.

Tharptown and Phillips were all tied up at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. Tharptown pulled ahead 22-21 at halftime. The Bears outscored the Wildcats 15-9 in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

Jessica Wilson led Tharptown with 16 points. Linda Bahena had seven points. Klaudia Harris, Ameliah Dawson and Brooke Daily had six points each. Sierra Robinson finished with four points, and Catie Dawson had two points.
