Zula Mae Greenhill Guinn

Zula Mae Greenhill Guinn, Russellville, left her earthly life Jan. 27 at the age of 81. She is survived by her husband Gillie Guinn, of 64 years; son James Guinn and wife Ginger Sumerel Guinn, Spruce Pine; Juanita Guinn Martin and husband James “Tuck” Martin, Russellville; and Janet Guinn Griffin and husband Bill Griffin, Florence.

She is also survived by siblings Flavel Greenhill, Muscle Shoals, Brenda Greenhill Pettus, Lexington, and Tulon Greenhill, Killen.

She leaves six precious grandchildren, Ashley Guinn Burchell and husband Adam, Florence; Braxton Guinn and wife Katie, Montgomery; Casey Guinn Stewart and husband Trace, Madison; Paige Martin, Russellville; Kalon Borden, Tuscaloosa; and Garrett Borden, Florence. She also leaves four great-grandchildren, Luke and Sadie Kate Guinn and Adley and Ellynn Burchell, and a host of nieces and nephews, special cousins and friends.

Mrs. Guinn is preceded in death by her parents Albert Braxton Greenhill, “A.B.” and Ella King Greenhill; brother, Avis Bencil Greenhill; and nephews Larry Wayne Greenhill and Jody Ray Greenhill.

Zula Mae was a retired Franklin County School teacher and spent her tenure between Rockwood Jr. High School and Red Bay Elementary School. She was a member of Shady Grove church of Christ.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Spry Funeral Home chapel, and funeral services will be Jan. 30 at 2 p.m.  Mrs. Guinn will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral.  Burial will be in Dempsey Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

A special message from her family, “Thank you so VERY much to the MANY caregivers that helped make Mom’s life more enjoyable over the past several years. We will never be able to express how much we appreciated your help, your love, and your dedication.”
