Phil Campbell brings regular season to close

The Phil Campbell softball team picked up three wins to close the regular season. The Bobcats beat Winston County 5-4, Florence 4-3 and Hamilton 6-3.

Senior Darby Elliott ended senior night in dramatic fashion with a walk-off hit to lead Phil Campbell to a 5-4 victory over the Winston County Yellow Jackets.

The game was tied at four with the Bobcats batting in the bottom of the seventh inning when Elliott doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring Katie Thomas.

Winston County took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Phil Campbell tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a Chloe Roberson home run to centerfield.

The Yellow Jackets reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth, 2-1, and extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the sixth inning.

Phil Campbell cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Elliott singled in Katie Thomas.

The Bobcats got the win in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cypress Quinn tripled, scoring Kallie Allen.  Thomas doubled in Quinn before Elliott’s dramatic walkoff.

Phil Campbell 4, Florence 3

The Lady Bobcats built a four-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off a late charge by Florence High School to win 4-3.

Phil Campbell 6, Hamilton 3

Phil Campbell defeated the Hamilton Aggies in extra innings last week, 6-3.

Hamilton built up a 2-0 lead before the Bobcats tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. The game remained scoreless the rest of the way, forcing extra innings.

Phil Campbell took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning. Hamilton, however, tied the game again in the bottom half of the inning.

The Bobcats broke through in the top of the ninth for the win.
