Phil Campbell hosts 17th annual Hoedown festival

The 2018 Phil Campbell Hoedown kicked off Friday night with gospel groups Purpose and New Ground.

Between entertainment sets, State Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow took to the stage and presented a resolution recognizing local veterans Colby Bragwell and Caleb Thompson. Bragwell and Thompson created Operation 22, which is a 22-mile walk that is scheduled to take place once a year. Operation 22’s goal is to raise awareness and funds to go toward helping veterans who battle mental health issues and help prevent veteran suicides.

Saturday was full of entertainment and prizes. Performances by Station Street, Fairlane, the JJ Scott Band and Jerry Martin and The Free State Band rocked the stage all afternoon and into the evening. The entertainment lineup finished up with the headliner The Band Steele taking the stage at 8 p.m.
