FCS changes bus driver rates

Franklin County School bus drivers will be seeing a slight change in rates for extracurricular activities and field trips this school year.

At the July 31 FCS Board of Education meeting, the board approved a proposal by assistant superintendent Johnny Cleveland to raise the extracurricular activities and field trips rates from $65 to $75.

This adjustment will change the total amount after benefits are included from $72 to $90. Also, drivers will be paid an additional $25 for trips that require them to miss their regular routes and for trips that do not exceed 120 miles of travel.

“This provides an incentive for drivers to take these shorter runs,” Cleveland explained.

Cleveland said these additional funds will not come from the school board but from the local schools.

Other actions taken at the meeting included:

  • Approval of the Child Nutrition Program Employee Handbook.
  • Approval to award the Child Nutrition Program bid for bread to Flowers Baking Company as the lowest responsible bidder with a roll-over extension for three additional 12-month periods through July 31, 2022.
