RHS volleyball battles challenging opponents

The varsity volleyball schedule for the Russellville Golden Tigers featured matches against Florence, Muscle Shoals and Winfield over the past week.

Sept. 25 the Lady Golden Tigers traveled to Florence High School to take on both Florence and Muscle Shoals.

In the match against Muscle Shoals, RHS fell to the Trojans 2-0. Game scores were 17-25 and 8-25. Briley Gillespie had three kills and one block, while Kaitleen Arzola had one kill and three blocks. Treyvia Pruitt and Alivia Clemmons added four digs each for RHS.

Against Florence, the Lady Falcons swept Russellville 28-30 and 8-25. For Russellville, Callie Palmer had three kills and a block. Makala O’Neal had three aces, and Krista Sikes had three assists. Gillespie had two kills and two blocks, while Arzola had a kill and two blocks. Clemmons also pitched in with 17 digs for Russellville.

The Lady Golden Tigers took a trip to Winfield to face off with the Pirates Thursday. Russellville got off to a good start by taking the first two games but then lost the match by dropping the final three games to Winfield. Game scores for the match were 25-21, 25-14, 23-25, 23-25 and 11-15.

For RHS, Lexie Glass had eight kills and two blocks, while Gillespie added four kills and four blocks. Pruitt had six kills, six digs and a block, and Clemmons had 31 digs in the match. Briana Ramirez picked up 12 digs and nine assists, and Arzola had three blocks, 11 digs and nine aces. Sikes rounded out the stats with seven digs, one ace and six assists.
