RHS volleyball picks up wins over Hamilton, Fayette County

The Russellville varsity volleyball team recently faced a couple of area opponents along with two other matches against non-area teams.

The Lady Golden Tigers (8-19, 3-3) went to Hamilton Oct. 4 and played against the Aggies and Fayette County.

RHS took down the winless-on-the-season Hamilton team in area play for the second time this year.  This time, Russellville swept HHS 3-0 by scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-16.

Krista Sikes had 11 assists, four digs and three aces for RHS. Makala O’Neal had two kills, and Kaitleen Arzola had seven kills, four digs and one ace.

Briley Gillespie had four kills and a block, while Treyvia Pruitt had six kills. Lexie Glass had six kills and four blocks, while Willis pitched in with eight assists, three digs and three aces. Alivia Clemmons had 11 digs and one ace, while Briana Ramirez added 11 digs and two aces.

The match versus Fayette County was a 2-0 sweep for RHS by scores of 25-23 and 25-16. Clemmons had 12 digs in the win, while Ramirez had 14 digs and four aces.  Sikes added eight assists and one ace while Willis had one ace and seven assists. Glass had three kills and two blocks, and Gillespie had three kills and three blocks. Arzola rounded out the stats with five kills, 10 digs and one ace.

The Golden Tigers took on Lawrence County and Central-Florence on the same evening and fell to both schools.

In the match against Lawrence County, RHS dropped the area contest by scores of 8-25, 16-25 and 16-25. For Russellville, Pruitt had five assists, four digs, two kills and two blocks. Arzola had seven digs and five kills, while Gillespie picked up three blocks and three aces, and Glass had five blocks and three kills.  Ramirez added 17 digs, and Clemmons had 12.

Against Central, Russellville took the first game by a 25-15 total but went on to lose the next two by scores of 13-25 and 11-15 to drop the match.

Josie Willis had five assists and two aces for RHS. Brooklyn Wells had three blocks, while Ramirez had 10 digs and Clemmons had seven. Arzola helped out with four kills and eight digs, while Glass had five blocks and two kills.
