Hurley and Wall Drug Store on Franklin Street was apparently a popular spot for early settlers to gather to swap stories and knives.

Help us share a peek at the past

A new feature you might have noticed in your Franklin County Times is our “Peek at the past,” a weekly photo from Franklin County’s yesteryear.

You can regularly find this photo on page 5 or 6 each week to enjoy a moment in time from Franklin County’s history. We are sharing photos from our own archives, as well as from the Franklin County Archives, as we frequently do in Franklin Living for the magazine’s “Looking Back” page.

Photos abound that show Franklin County as it has grown and developed through the years, and we know our readers enjoy seeing these photos and reminiscing on our past. We hope this little peek at days gone by becomes a favorite feature of the newspaper.

Although we have plenty of our own photos to share, we would also like to invite you to submit your images for consideration for “Peek at the past.” If you have photos of great-great-great-great Franklin County relatives or snapshots from community events of decades ago, we want to see them – and maybe share them with readers of the Franklin County Times.

Scanned photos may be emailed to alison.james@fct.wpengine.com. Please include all information you have about the photo, including the date, location and names of those pictured.

Hard copy photos may be brought to the Franklin County Times to be scanned and returned.

We hope to see your best images, and we will choose our favorites to print in an upcoming edition.

For more information email alison.james@fct.wpengine.com.
