Red Bay varsity splits at Hatton
Josie Harville scored 10 fourth-quarter points to help lead the Hatton Hornets in a come-from-behind overtime win over the Red Bay Tigers 51-50 Friday night.
Red Bay led Hatton 11-5 at the end of the first quarter and held onto the lead at halftime, 17-11. The Tigers extended their lead to 31-20 in the third quarter, but the Hornets, led by Harville, came storming back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Red Bay 23-12 to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Hatton outscored Red Bay 8-7 in the overtime period.
Mallori Miller and Reagan Kuykendall led Red Bay with 14 and 12 points respectively. Cassidy Kuykendall added nine points, Lila Blackburn eight points, Macy Faulkner four points, Kaylee Markham two points and Destiny McCollister one point.
In the varsity boys game, the Red Bay Tigers easily defeated the Hatton Hornets 62-40. Nine players landed in the scoring column for the Tigers, led by Braden Ray’s 16 points.
Following Ray was Colton Corum, who scored 13 points, including nine in the third quarter. He was followed by point guard Clay Allison with 10 points. Arden Hamilton added nine points, Tanner Hamilton six points, Noah Brewer five points, Hunter Bays three points, Gath Weatherford three points and Lane Shewbart two points.
Red Bay was 12-for-14 from the free throw line in the game.
