Club Chronicles: Holiday cheers from local clubs
Now that many club members have completed decorating downtown, their churches and homes, etc., we are finally settling down to enjoy the holidays. To celebrate the season, meetings centered on the Christmas holidays.
Book Lovers Study Club held its December meeting at the home of Brenda Oliver with co-hostesses Cheri McCain and JoAnn Graham. This social was a covered dish dinner, and members answered roll call with their favorite Christmas movie. The club’s Christmas project was a $150 donation to Fame Girls Ranch and $85 donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The book “Beth, The Bethlehem Star,” written by Alana Reeves of Russellville, was donated to the Russellville Public Library and to Andrea’s Arbor.
Members were commended for the success of the Holiday Tour of Homes.
Cultura Garden Club holiday festivities were held at my home. Each member brought their favorite covered dish to share.
Members received accolades for their work on the decorations downtown for the Christmas holidays. Many compliments have been received from local citizens stressing their appreciation for making downtown look so beautiful for everyone to enjoy. Compliments were also expressed to the members for the success of the annual Every Light a Prayer for Peace. Next project is a “bean” fundraiser scheduled for February. The proceeds will be used to purchase plants for the pots downtown this spring.
The Franklin County Education Retiree Association held its December meeting at the Russellville First United Methodist Church Ministry Center. The members enjoyed a covered dish luncheon. Entertainment was provided by the Singing River Dulcimer Group, which played many favorite Christmas songs, such as “Silent Night,” “Blue Christmas,” “Jingle Bells,” etc., with members singing along with them. They closed the program with “Amazing Grace” and “God Bless America.”
All members were wished a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
